I Hit A Cow !
“I hit a cow!” “Did you say, I hit a cow?” replied the 911 dispatcher. “Yes, yes,” I said frantically. “The thing just ran out in front of my car like it was crazy,” I explained. “Is any one hurt?” asked the officer. “Just the cow,” I said sarcastically.
Later, the farmer explained that the young calf had jumped the fence three times that day. He said It was the most stubborn animal he had ever seen.
Independence will kill you. Assuming unnecessary risk just to be “cool.” isn’t “rugged individualism.” The overly glamorized courage associated with being “cool” is misplaced. Bikers get injured, because they’re bikers. Not because they’re “Free spirited.” “Nobody tells me what to do” is a mantra of foolishness. Such independence, has landed many in prison, where they’re told everything to do.
The foolish calf traded the complete security of his owners fenced in protection and provision, for the illusion of adventure beyond the fence. Independence is not necessarily the same thing as freedom.
Psalm 23 Is death defying high adventure. “In your face” irreverence for all enemies characterizes this fearless gang of…well, sheep?
OK, sheep aren’t cool, but they never get run over as long as they follow the one who’s is cooler than anybody.
True freedom is in surrendering complete trust to Jesus and obediently following His lead. Following Christ is the greatest adventure of all.
