“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2Pet.3:9
The next time you encounter the bitter soul or the proud agnostic or the angry unbeliever who defiantly challenges God for His apparent toleration of his world’s evils, remind him, that it is for him, that God is waiting. In fact, we are all waiting for him to repent so God can wrap this thing up and get on with the new heaven and the new earth.
“Longsuffering,” means God is suffering too. In His great patience, He limits His “control,” not only for the sake of the many, but just as much for that one last sinner who might repent. His wrath is ready and easily able to snuff out all the evil that we all despise. It’s His love that’s holding it back.
To that agnostic we might boldly say,” maybe you sir, are that last one that we’ve all been waiting for? If you really hate evil, why not bring in Gods control over your own life, today?”
